SSA INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

VJTI is organizing an international conference on the Role of Higher Education in Ensuring Quality in Universalization of Elementary Education (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan-SSA) to be held between December 20th and 22nd, 2007.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is the Government of India's flagship programme for achievement of the Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) in a time bound manner, as mandated by 86th amendment to the Constitution of India, making free and compulsory education, a fundamental right to life, available to the children between the afes of 6 & 14 years age group. SSA is being implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and address the needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.

The conference aims at gathering experiences from the world over on spreading elementary education. Particularly, it looks into what best practices have emerged with the advent of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and how the higher education institutions can synergize with the massive effort of the government and community in spreading the access and ensuring the quality of elementary education.
